Mike's First Tour Race...

We spent the past weekend in Wenatchee for the NW Tour race. The Wenatchee track is very small - 1/4 Mile - smaller than the 3/8s at Monroe.

Before we even left for the race, Mike decided that if he couldn't get at least a 13.1 lap time he wasn't going to race. During the first practice on Friday, Mike turned a 13.1 and during the last practice turned a 12.9!

The next day was Race Day. Weather was bad - it rained pretty much all day. Around 4, the sky began to clear and the track dried up. Mike made it in for the last practice before qualifying. Since Mike was the only car there with a crate motor (less horse-power than all the other tour cars) he was suppose to get 4 qualifying laps. We were not aware of this rule so he went out and took 2 laps and qualified last. Mike started the race in the very back of the 20 car field. Because the track is so small - literally a circle track, with little to no straight away - we were hoping that the other cars having more horse-power would not be an advantage. Mike held his own, avoided every wreck and finished 11th! He got out of the car drenched in sweat, with a huge smile on his face and said, "That was so much fun!"
